Special Report:   2007 Spring Festival

Chinese travellers hoping to go overseas during the Spring Festival this year will have to dig deeper into their wallets. The latest prices quoted by local travel agencies show that those wanting to travel to Australia and New Zealand will be the hardest hit.

Packages for those destinations are 40% higher than off-peak prices, with some tours topping 2,500 US dollars. Meanwhile, prices for tours to Egypt, Turkey and South Africa are also seeing a huge jump.

The Spring Festival is one of three golden week holidays in China, with many people opting to spend their vacation overseas. Massive price hikes have already become routine for the market.
