In Iran, as in many other countries, the blind often find themselves at a disadvantage in the workplace.

In today's episode from our series on working conditions across Asia, Mohammad Reza Dehshiri from Iranian television explores the lives of blind workers in some very different environments.

The sea is a clear sign of god’s mighty power. It is a vast source of wealth. Fish has been shared with people from all over the world, and everyone is entitled to its riches. And there is no difference between young and old.

The sea is generous and beneficial source of wealth and serves old blind man with all his humbleness. An old blind man has been fishing at the Pesian gulf of Muhamad Ahemeri in Iran’s Boushehr province for years.

He has earned humble living from fishing in the waters of generous sea. "Although I am blind, I apply all the necessary tools during my work. Officials have refused to extend my fishing permit. My life is based on my job and God has to help me carry on. "

The seventy year old from the City of Qom who works at this shoe-making workshop with satisfaction reminds me of healthy young men and women who complain of unemployment and lack of suitable job.

"We have a good country. The foundations for all sorts of activities are laid. However our youth have high expectations.

Working is equal to worshipping God. I am 70 years old and I love my job. "

Taking into consideration that the blind persons who are living in the deplorable social and economic condition and they are bread-winner of the families, some measures should be taken for their social protection in micro level by Iranian government and in macro level by ILO.
