Nasmeen Ahmed, an official of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR), a medical organization specialized at treatment of diarrhea, told Xinhua in an interview on Monday diarrhea cases are more than doubled this year comparing with the same period of last year.

Diarrhea is a common disease in Bangladesh, especially in big cities like capital Dhaka where environment is gradually deteriorating due to city expansion and population explosion.

Diarrhea is a waterborne disease and most of the cases are related to drinking unclean water.

"As the population is growing in Dhaka, more and more people have no access to clean water. In some areas, especially in western Dhaka, the water is contaminated. It is easy to suffer diarrhea after drinking the contaminated water," Nasmeen said.
