Special Report: Tech MaxSANTIAGO, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) regional office for Latin America Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched here on Friday an "Eat Healthy" campaign to prevent food-related diseases.
Eating healthy and living healthy |
The campaign will give information in Spanish, English and French in all the Latin American and Caribbean countries on the good practices for eating, including the handling and preparation of food at home.
According to the FAO, washing hands before eating, using drinking or treated water for cooking are basic and easy measures that help to ensure food safety and prevent diseases.
The campaign will teach people the right way to prepare and store food so as to avoid contamination, and it will also provide information on how to choose food materials and how to protect the food chain.
"The access to healthy, nutritive and safe food is an essential right of the people, linked to their rights to food and life," FAO said.
According to the FAO, more than 800,000 people die of diarrhea each year due to the consumption of polluted food and water.
