Such action would be in line with participating with an international movement, 'Earth Hour', WWF Malaysia executive director Dionysius S. K. Sharma said at the launch of the Malaysian chapter of 'Earth Hour' here on Monday.

Several iconic landmarks in the country such as Kuala Lumpur Tower would join hands with landmarks in 74 other countries to observe 'Earth Hour', he said.

"The act of switching off non-essential lights is an effortless step that every person can take, to trigger a huge positive impact against climate change," he said.

"We aim to demonstrate unprecedented solidarity and provide a visual global mandate that will put heat on world leaders meeting at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen this year," he added.

Earth Hour Malaysia ambassador Yasmin Ahmad said he hopes more corporate companies and government agencies could participate in the movement.

The 'Earth Hour' movement has already proven itself in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, where 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for an hour.
