The Greater Mekong River Sub-region enjoys favorable weather and a multitude of geographical features, and together these two factors enable this region to have the greatest number of species of living things anywhere on the planet. Although the Greater Mekong River Sub-region accounts for less than one-twentieth of Asia, the area boasts a quarter of the animal species found on the Asian continent.

It is often said that the elephant is the king of the forest, but there can be no doubt the statement is true. This program will trace the road of an eighty-year-old man who has hunted elephants his entire life; we will follow a herd of elephants in the wildness and see behavior (things) never before captured on film; we will witness a unique “elephant holiday” and take a look at the world’s largest elephant hospital. In doing so we will be examining the close relationship between man and the elephant, both in the past and in the present.
