Ye Qiaobo, born in Changchun, the capital city of Northeast China's Jilin Province on June 3, 1964, is the most successful Chinese sprint skater so far, collected 14 world championships.

Ye began to practice speed skating at the age of 10 and entered the People's Liberation Army sprint skating team three years later. In 1985, she became a member of the national team.

In 1991, she finished 2nd on all distances and overall at the World Sprint Championships. In 1992, she took home two silver medals from the Winter Olympics before she won the women's 1000m and all-round titles in the World Short Track Sprint Championships, becoming the first Asian to win sprint distances all-round championship.

In 1993, she was gold medallist of women's short distance all-round. One year later, she overcame all the injuries to collect the 1000m sprint bronze in the 17th Winter Olympics.

After this event, the skater went into retirement due to injuries and began to study for her MBA degree in Tsinghua University, one of China's more prestigious universities. Two years later, she set up the Qiaobo International Sports Club Co., Ltd. Then she was elected a member of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. She was also a member of the 9th Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee.
