On April 5, Chongqing Evening News' survey center conducted a survey on the "ideal public rental housing." The survey results find that among the 310 respondents, almost 70 percent chose the most important thing as "a rent lower than the market average," followed by "convenient transportation," "a livable environment" and "strict management to ensure safety."

Rent should be lower than the market average 　

Two years ago, Wang Yan graduated from a university in Chongqing, and since then has worked in a commercial center. According to related policies, the rent for public housing should be 60 percent of that on the market. This means that the rent for a unit in public housing with two bedrooms and one living room will be about 480 yuan a month.

Wu Yan, a saleswoman, said that it takes her four hours to get to work and she has to transfer twice on the bus to get from the place where she lives to where she works. Wu hopes that the public rental housing will be built near a transportation hub, so that she will be able to save more time spending in commuting. 　　

All of the planned public rental housings in Chongqing are located beside light rail transit or a subway or bus station. This means that transportation is very convenient. For example, the public rental housing in Dazhulin, the construction on which has already begun, is near subway Line Six. Additionally, Dazhulin is also the departure station for 230, 869, 886, 665, 887 and many other bus lines, which are destined for Shapingba, Dragon Head Temple, Jiangbei City, Lianglu, Cuiyun and other places.

A livable environment 　

Wu Yong, a reader of the Chongqing Evening News, said that most of the houses available for rent on the market are old ones located in the places where the environment is bad and few supporting facilities are available. Wu hopes that the public rental housing will provide a truly livable environment. 　

The public rental housing projects in 21 populous areas, which concern the public's welfare, are built to live up to high quality requirements all the way from planning to design and construction. It will meet the above average level that is used to measure commercial residential housing. Furthermore, these projects will be built to feature more Chongqing characteristics. 　

The Dazhulin project, which covers an area of 53.5 hectares, has a total floor area of about 1.201 million square meters and a greenery rate of about 40.9 percent. There are about 20,700 units available for rent, which is enough to hold about 62,000 people. A fitness park, a leisure park, a basketball playground, a cultural station, primary schools, banks, clinics and a residential committee will be established in the community.

Wang once lost a camera in the house he rented, but the landlord refused to take responsibility. Wang hopes that the public rental housing management will be strict in order to ensure safety and security.
