Beijing taxi to charge 1 yuan extra for higher fuel costs

2009-11-13 18:09 BJT

Beijing is likely to charge passengers traveling over three kilometers a fuel surcharge

Passengers traveling over three kilometers, threshold distance for the fuel surcharge, by taxi are required to pay a one-yuan fuel surcharge above the taxi fare shown on the meter. On November 11, relevant authorities in Beijing disclosed that the city will refine a mechanism linking taxi fares and gasoline prices. The government, taxi companies, taxi drivers and passengers will reasonably share the cost of gasoline price fluctuations to cope with fuel price rises.

A special invoice for the taxi fuel surcharge will be given to passengers

Fuel surcharges will be collected flexibly according to adjustments in gasoline prices. Beijing's relevant authorities will issue a public notice in advance whenever fuel surcharges start or stop.

Currently, passengers traveling by taxi receive an invoice automatically printed by the meter, indicating the mileage. Once fuel surcharge collection starts, if the mileage is less than three kilometers, fares will be charged according to the old method. If the mileage exceeds three kilometers, passengers are required to pay a one-yuan fuel surcharge above the taxi fare shown on the meter. Taxi drivers should give passengers both the "special invoice for Beijing taxi service" and the "special invoice for Beijing taxi fuel surcharges."
