The number of enlisted young women has trebled

As this year's conscription is open to the public for the first time and thanks to the National Day parade, the number of young women in Beijing who have signed up to join the army has increased significantly. As of November 7, over 3,000 enlisted young women had signed up, three times the amount of previous years.

At the medical examination center in Daxing, a dozen female university students from the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication and the Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology respectively who had signed up to join the army were undertaking medical examinations. Reporters learned that of the 87 students from Beijing University of Agriculture who enlisted, 64 are girls. Over 100 female students from China Women's University signed up to join the army, and over 200 female students from Beijing City University included in the recruitment range for the first time have signed up.

Of the 1,200-plus enlisted young women who have passed the initial examination, 9 percent are college and university students, including around 49 percent of new graduates, 41 percent of college and university students and around 10 percent of new senior middle school graduates.
