Beijing MTR Corporation Limited disclosed on October 28 that Beijing subway line 4 transported a total of about 16 million passengers in its first month in operation, from September 28 to October 28. The daily passenger volume was about 530,000. These numbers are almost identical with the numbers anticipated.

Reporters learned that Beijing subway line 4 transported exactly 15.839 million passengers in its first operational month. The average daily passenger volume was 528,000, and so far the largest volume for a single day was 646,000. The single day maximum capacity of the line is 800,000, and it is expected that the volume will be reached within six months after the line was opened.

Beijing subway line 4 is a major line in Beijing's traffic network. Its total length is about 28.2 kilometers, and it mainly runs through the downtown area of Beijing from north to south, including the four populous administrative districts, Fengtai, Xuanwu, Xicheng and Haidian. In its first operational month, it has already shown its characteristics. For example, at Xidan and Haidianhuangzhuang stations, there are more passengers who get in than get out; but in the Xizhimen and Xuanwumen stations, the situation is reversed. Meanwhile, the average daily passenger volume of the line 4 is larger on weekends than on working days, which indicates that line 4 is more of a tourism and shopping line.

Reporters also learned that after the line opened, several times a train has arrived behind schedule due to the unstable signal system. To fix this, the Beijing MTR Corporation Limited has diagnosed and adjusted the signals, and will improve the stability of the system by updating the system and correcting the defects. So far, the situation has been effectively controlled.
