Beijing has already entered the peak flu season with the simultaneous spread of seasonal flu and the A/H1N1 flu, with the A/H1N1 obviously attracting most of the attention. Reporters learned this on October 27 at a press conference concerning the prevention and control measures Beijing is taking for the A/H1N1 flu.

According to the daily reports from flu monitoring stations in Beijing, on October 24, the number of daily flu cases already exceeded 4,000, almost four times that of previous years. Currently, the number of outpatient and emergency flu cases in Beijing has already been close to the peak level of the previous years, and the numbers are increasing. To date, the city of Beijing has reported 5,851 confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases, symptoms of which are mostly light, so the flu so far has been a self-limiting disease.

The Beijing Municipal Health Bureau requires that students who have flu symptoms at school or home should go to hospital or ask county or district-level disease prevention centers to conduct on-site checks. Once they are diagnosed with either seasonal or A/H1N1 flu, they should accept treatment in a hospital or at home depending on which type of flu they have.

The city of Beijing will allocate and supplement traditional Chinese medicine from the municipal reserve to each major hospital, community hospital and health service station, as well as increase medical personnel.
