The Chinese government said on Monday that it aims to build the southern island of Hainan into a top international tourism destination by 2020.
The State Council released a document January 4 detailing the development of Hainan into an international tourist destination, explicating 6 strategies for the development plan. Listed companies in the 3 industries of tourism, transportation and infrastructure construction will benefit most from the plan.
Wei Liucheng, Secretary of CPC Hainan Provincial Committee said "We are trying to promote overall development of Hainan Island. Hainan Island will become more open and globalized, while improving our construction, equipment, management, and service sectors.
If Hainan´s new plan is able to show China´s regional competitions a new direction of developing non-industrial industries instead of heavy industries, its significance will absolutely be no less than that of the Disney project in Shanghai.
