Special instrument used in Subway Line 4 to check safety of beverage

Reporters learned that besides the security scans in the subway Line 4's stations, which are to be put into operation soon, an instrument, quite similar to an outdated typewriter, has caught people's attention. According to a safety-inspector, it can check whether the beverages of passengers are safe or not, replacing the current practice for checking beverages, which often results in long lines.

The quick liquid testing instrument is a light gray color and has two prominent grooves, which are labeled as Testing Port for Common Containers and Testing Port for Aluminum Cans. “Pop cans and water bottles can be put in the two ports. After getting into the station, passengers can put the beverages into the corresponding grooves. The test lasts only two seconds,” said a safety inspector here, “Currently, the beverage safety detecting instruments have been put in place throughout Line 4. Due to the fact that the device is small and it only has one purpose, it can expedite the safety inspection process to some extent and make it convenient for the passengers to enter the stations. ”

“Although there are signs in the Line 4 stations which prohibit eating and drinking, we are mainly promoting civilized behavior on the subway, and it does not necessarily mean that food and drink are strictly prohibited,” said an officer from Beijing MTR. He explains that normal behaviors such as drinking water will not be stopped by the subway attendants. The attendants will notify passengers of their behavior if their food is excessively fragrant or messy, and is disturbing other passengers.
