Wireless Internet access available within 15 square kilometers of Yizhuang

On the morning of August 18 at the launching ceremony for the Wireless Yizhuang project, held at Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, that 15 square kilometers of the Yizhuang core area would be covered by wireless Internet, indicating that all the public service areas in the development area would have wireless access to the Internet.

The Wireless Yizhuang project officially started on December 30, 2008 and it was the first domestic project that adopted McWiLL, an independently innovated technology to create wireless coverage. Currently, construction of the first phase of the project has been completed. The wireless Internet covers an area of 15 square kilometers, and full coverage in the entire core area of the development zone will soon be reached. In the second and third phase, the project will progress side-by-side with the planning and construction of the development zone and Yizhuang New City.

According to an official from Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, in the first phase of the project, ten wireless signal base stations were set up in Boda Mansion, Xinkang Residential Community, Zhonghe Industrial Park, International Art School, Yongchang Industrial Park, Longsheng Industrial Park, Bodayongkang Business Apartment, and the Software Park of Beijing Polytechnical University. Another ten will be added in the second phase in the east development area and Hexi Area. In the third phase, 13 more will be set up so as to make wireless Internet available in the entire Yizhuang New City.

According to sources, the Wireless Yizhuang project, planned by the management committee of the development area by way of purchasing wireless Internet services, aims to provide guidance on establishing the public wireless coverage over key areas, and promote the application of wireless technology in government affairs and city management. Meanwhile, businesses and residents in the area can get access to wireless Internet from within businesses and households by purchasing wireless Internet services.

In addition, the Wireless Yizhuang network will include a wide variety of services, including security monitoring, environment monitoring, emergency command, intelligent transportation and mobile offices among others.
