Three rare dinosaur fossils excavated from Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province, including "China's first dinosaur," the oldest dinosaur fossil excavated in China and "Chuanjiesaurus," the largest, will receive new homes at the New China Science and Technology Museum on August 15.
On the morning of August 13, sources from the museum told reporters that the Chuxiong Prefecture government had presented the museum with three rare dinosaur fossils excavated in the Prefecture as a gift to celebrate the museum’s change of location.

These national treasures will be transported to Beijing on the morning of August 14, and will arrive at Beijing Capital International Airport in the afternoon. Early in the morning of August 15, a large truck will transport the fossils to their new home in the Olympic Park.
These dinosaur fossils have to be dismantled before they are transported, because they are bulky. There will be experts present throughout the transportation to protect the fossils, and the museum has sent a special team to Chuxiong Prefecture to take them to Beijing. Additionally, there are strict requirements for temperature and humidity throughout transport in order to prevent environmental damage. Trucks equipped with shock absorbers are being used.
The museum is now busy decorating the new home for these three dinosaur fossils, said Xin Bin, vice curator of the museum. They will be placed in the museum’s central hall on the second floor. Visitors can see the fossils’ new home by taking an elevator on the first floor.
These dinosaur fossils will be assembled together once they arrive in Beijing. Two pterosaur models and several other fossils will accompany these three.
These dinosaur fossils will be open to Beijing residents on September 16.
The largest dinosaur fossil among them is the “Chuanjiesaurus” which is 27 meters long. It is the largest dinosaur fossil ever excavated in China. At present, the largest dinosaur fossil on display in Beijing is only 22 meters long.
The oldest dinosaur fossil is the “Lufengosaurus huenei,” known as “China’s first dinosaur.” It is the oldest dinosaur fossil to be excavated in China at present.
