Forest Park to build ecological passage for small animals

2009-08-07 15:42 BJT

The ecological corridor looks like an overpass with arbors, shrubs, flowers and grass, through which squirrels and other small animals can pass through freely. Forest Park is divided by the Fifth Ring Road into two parts, North Area and South Area. In order not to break the ecological chain of the park, an ecological corridor has been specially designed by the park’s construction company. On it, there is not only soil but also a variety of shrubs for small animals to pass through. “Of course, we have also considered vehicles and pedestrians, and a six-meter wide road on the corridor will provide access for them,” said Tian Jinxian.

At present, the greenery has been put in place, with plants such as lacebark pines, locust trees, peach trees and clove trees. Ground covers like lotus corniculatus, dandelions and Coronilla varia have also been planted on the corridor, and a ratio of evergreen to deciduous trees of about 4:6, has been used, which ensures a colorful landscape all year round. The soil on the corridor is inorganic light soil used for landscape gardening. The weight is only half that of normal soil. In addition, drip irritation will be used to water the plants using pipes buried in the soil. The water can be absorbed by the plants’ roots directly and thus avoid water running off the bridge.
