2009-07-13 16:32 BJT

Full-scale construction has already begun on the second-phase of the Fushi Road project. Reporters learned from Beijing Municipal Commission of Urban Planning (BMCUP) that upon completion, the project will link the West Fifth Ring Road to Shuangyu Roundabout. A design proposal has already been completed for key points along the road. According to the plan, there will be 5 key points along the road, including 3 exits. A further 7 stops will be reserved for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines.

The second phase of the project extends from Shuangyu Roundabout in Mentougou District to Jinyuan Bridge on the West Fifth Ring Road, a distance of 9.62 kilometers. Vehicles on this road will be able to reach a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Reporters learned that there will be 5 key points along the entire length of the project, from west to east including: the Sixth Ring Road, Yongding River, Fengsha Railway, Jingmen Road flyover, Pingguoyuan Transit Center, and Yangzhuang Street. There will also be 7 BRT stops, including Shuangyu Roundabout, Mayubeikou, Shijingshan Railway Station, Jingding Street, Pingguoyuan Transit Center, Yangzhuang, and Yangzhuangdongkou. Beijing Public Transport Holdings, Ltd. (BPT) is currently discussing specific BRT operation plans.

During the second phase of the project, the Jin'an Bridge, famous for confusing drivers, will be transformed into a diamond-shaped flyover. The project, which has already started, will be completed in 2010. Upon completion, a fast road will allow direct entry and exit from the city center, enabling residents to drive from the West Fourth Ring Road to Shuangyu Roundabout in Mentougou in less than 10 minutes.
