On June 23, a golden “throne” was placed in front of the Dong'an Market, Wangfujing and it attracted many tourists to pose for taking pictures. This was in the Wangfujing Old Beijing Food Festival jointly held by time-honored food companies in Beijing and Dong'an Market.
A manager from the Dong'an Market told reporters that there was a great variety of old Beijing snacks available, including folk snacks and those supplied to emperors. For example, Yushiyuan, a time-honored food company in Beijing, was autographed by Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty.
In the Old Beijing Food Festival, there were Beijing-style cakes, four delicacies of Beijing (a specialty made of small sweet potatoes, candied haws on a stick, soybean cake and pea flour cake), healthy poria cake and other snacks that used to be supplied to imperial families. Also available were folk snacks with themes of “assorted Old Beijing food,” “home cooking dishes in Qianmen,” “Beijing Hutong Kou” and “genuine taste and flavor.” In addition, a modern series were also available, including “tea companion (dried fruit) series” and “leisure snack series.”
