Old Moscow Restaurant closes from June 10 to restore original look

"We came today to enjoy a meal at the Moscow Restaurant so we can reminisce the past before the redecoration begins!" The objective of redecoration is to restore the restaurant's original look as much as possible and expand its business functions. The restaurant is located in the west wing of Beijing Exhibition Center and has already been in operation for 55 years. It will close from June 10 for redecoration and as a result, a lot of customers went to the restaurant to enjoy a nostalgic meal before it suspends business.

Around 7:00pm on June 9, over 60 tables were occupied by customers in the restaurant. When seeing a notice placed in the main hall that read "Attention to Business Suspension," many guests sighed with emotion, "What a lucky coincidence, today is the last day!"

"Haha, we came here to remember the good old days," a lady said, adding that, the restaurant bore a flavor of the former Soviet Union with excellent atmosphere, and they ate in this restaurant 50 years ago. Later, two of her relatives also held wedding ceremonies here. After learning of the business suspension, the lady and her family, relatives and friends, a group of 9 gathered here to reminisce the past.

Business resumes at the beginning of September

Vice Manager of the restaurant, Ms Zhang, said that she came to work at the restaurant in 1989, and it was reconstructed in 2000 with the aim to keep up with the times. But now, in order to create a place for Beijingers to remember the past good days and to expand business functions, the restaurant will temporarily be closed for redecoration. It is expected to reopen at the beginning of September.
