“It takes 20 minutes to travel to Tianjin yet two hours to Beijing South Railway Station.” The public transport problem has bothered passengers ever since the new Beijing South Railway Station opened. Beijing Municipal Committee of Communications announced recently that the construction of a public transportation hub at Beijing South Railway Station and the neighboring road network will be completed in August, when over 10 bus lines will set up stops at the station’s square.
Passengers hear the bus stop name “Beijing South Railway Station”, but find that it is the old south railway station when they get off. If they want to go to the new station, they must first take a ferry bus. In January this year, Tian Xiaojun, a member of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPPCC investigated around Beijing South Railway Station for a long time and wrote a proposal, putting forward transportation problems such as misleading bus stop boards and difficulties faced by passengers to find ferry buses. He suggested ending the confusion by abolishing “Beijing South Station” bus stop boards, making clear the difference between “Beijing South Railway Station” and “Beijing South Railway Station Bus Stop”. He also proposed setting up eye-catching signs for convenient transfers as well as shortening the intervals between ferry buses.
In response, Beijing Municipal Committee of Communications said that the layout of public transport lines at the new Beijing South Railway Station, which opened last August, is quite constrained by the neighboring roads. According to the construction plan, a transportation hub at the north square of Beijing South Railway Station will be completed in August this year and the nearby road network connecting to the hub will also be completed for operation of bus lines.
By then, more than 10 bus lines including No. 102, No. 106 and No. 20 will set up bus stops at the transportation hub and the station square, resolving the problem of inconvenient public transportation at Beijing South Railway Station.
