Shanghai World Expo to invite students from all over the world to give suggestions

The Word Expo 2010 Shanghai preparations are gradually becoming better and better, and volunteer recruitment for the Expo, which was officially launched on May 1, also attracted great attention from youths all over the world.

During the Shanghai Forum “Youth Leadership Summit” held on the afternoon of May 11, Chen Jiang, Assistant Director of the Department for International Exhibitors under the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, delivered invitation cards to more than 50 young elite students from 17 countries and regions of the world’s five continents, inviting them to share their views and ideas regarding World Expo 2010 Shanghai’s preparation, planning and decision-making. These students from all corners of the world made many suggestions for the Expo, and proposed a lot of quite valuable “golden ideas.”

“The World Expo 2010 Shanghai will certainly be a grand gathering for every country of the world, and naturally, it also needs to gather the intelligence of the world and be geared with international standards,” said a student from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. In the opinions of these youths, traffic is always the most concerned and important issue at all previously held international exhibitions. The youths from various countries who participated in the summit actively and interactively discussed the arrangement of traffic during the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. Ange suggested that the World Expo 2010 Shanghai establish special agencies to seek the optimal traffic model from around the world. While Michael Anglia, a young student from Appalachian State University in the US, suggested that, "we can allocate special traffic lines for the World Expo 2010 Shanghai. People will be guided to take the special lines allocated for the Expo at designated places to alleviate the public transportation congestion."

How to actively popularize World Expo 2010 Shanghai to the entire world also became another hot topic among these students. Sean Field from Appalachian State University suggested using influential websites like YouTube and Facebook to promote the Expo. Purno, a student from Bocconi Business School in Italy, said that World Expo 2010 Shanghai can organize an article writing global competition centering on the theme of "Cities Make Life Better" and the winners can win an opportunity to participate in the Expo.

Reporters learned that this Shanghai Forum "Youth Leadership Summit" was sponsored by Shanghai Fudan University. It was attended by more than 50 students from world-renowned universities including Harvard University of the US, discussing the topic of "new thoughts and new choices facing the financial crisis.” According to Xin Qiang, Deputy Director of Fudan University´s Foreign Affairs Office, the young students from different countries shared their views and made suggestions about the Expo from their own perspectives. Meanwhile, the World Expo 2010 Shanghai also sent out more "invitation cards" to young people all over the world.
