Profile:

Lauded in his homeland after scoring Greece's winning goal in the UEFA EURO 2004™ final against Portugal, Angelos Charisteas will do well to scale such heights again in Austria and Switzerland, but despite making few waves at club level in the interceding four years, the tall, two-footed striker remains one of the first names on Otto Rehhagel's team-sheet.

Has never played for any of Greek football's 'Big Three' clubs; made his name at Aris Thessaloniki FC.

Scored twice on international debut – in 3-3 draw v Russia – and against both Germany and England in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Joined Werder Bremen in 2002 but chiefly a substitute as club won German double in 2003/04; therefore fit and fresh for UEFA EURO 2004™, where he scored key goals against Spain and France as well as winner in final v Portugal.

Signed as replacement striker for Zlatan Ibrahimović at AFC Ajax but only fleeting success before joining rivals Feyenoord in 2006.

Returned to Germany in 2007 after one season in Rotterdam, joining 1. FC Nürnberg; relegated in first season.

Three goals in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifying campaign.
