PLA in HK takes effective steps to beat SARS

The People's Liberation Army deployed in Hong Kong has taken drastic steps to keep the SARS virus at bay. And the measures seem to be working. The PLA troops deployed at the port's security checks are at the forefront of the battle. They have to brave the daily thick traffic between Hong Kong and Guangdong, the two worst-hit areas by the potent virus. Now the check points are armed with SARS-testing equipment, such as infra-red detectors and thermometers. At the PLA barracks in Hong Kong, all vehicles have to be dis-infected at the entrance, while public facilities are disinfected daily. The patrols, guards and reception staff have to wear face masks and insulation outfits, take medicine and have their temperature taken every day. To minimize the possibility of catching the virus, the troops are not allowed to receive visits or go on furlough as long as SARS persists. The PLA authorities in Hong Kong said so far SARS hasn't been able to infiltrate into their troops.
