Tuesday, May the 12th, is China's first National Day for Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. The day is set to commemorate last year's Sichuan earthquake, and to raise public awareness of disaster reduction. It's also part the country's disaster reduction mechanism.

A Bweijing resident said, "We need to know something about saving lives when a disaster happens."
Fires, floods, droughts, earthquakes..., China is one of the world's most disaster-prone countries.
From SARS in 2003, to the blizzards in early 2008, to last year's earthquake, China has accumulated a lot of experience in dealing with disasters. It's also set up a disaster relief system.
