President Hu thanks foreign envoys for help after May quake

Monday was just the eve of the first anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake. And Chinese President Hu Jintao took the chance to thank ambassadors and representatives from 27 countries for the help they'd rendered in the aftermath of the disaster.

Monday's meeting was in the provincial capital Chengdu where Hu Jintao told senior foreign diplomats that reconstruction has been "conducted in a strong, orderly and effective manner", adding that "social and economic development in the quake zone has returned to normal".
Tuesday will see the group of envoys visit one of the hardest-hit towns, Dujiangyan, where almost 300 children died in a middle school.
