The government declared May 12th Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day. The announcement came on the eve of the first anniversary of the Wenchuan earthquake, which left more than 87,000 people dead or missing.
Officials say they've been hard at work to reduce losses caused by natural disasters.
Zou Ming, Director of Disaster Relief of Ministry of Civil Affairs said "Based on the lessons we learned and problems found in rescue and relief work for the May 12th earthquake, we have made efforts to improve the country's disaster management system."
