BEIRUT, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Head of Hezbollah parliamentary block Mohammad Raad said Sunday that the Lebanese army does not posses strategic weapons to confront the arsenal of the Israeli army, Al-Manar TV reported.
"In military science, two regular armies should own balanced weapons to be able to confront each other," Raad said at a gathering in southern Lebanon, adding "Despite the brave officers and soldiers of the Lebanese army, there is no military balance in arms with the Zionist army."
"The clear thing is that it is forbidden internationally to arm the Lebanese army," Raad said, stressing that the only solution for the army and the resistance is to stand together.
Raad revealed that the major dispute between the Lebanese ruling coalition and the Hezbollah-led opposition is the "national defense strategy," accusing the ruling coalition of defending Lebanon against Israeli aggressions through "international friends," who proved that they take sides with Israel when Lebanon is endangered.
The Lebanese Shiite armed group Hezbollah fought a devastating 34-day war with Israel in 2006. UN resolution 1701 ended the acts of hostility between the two sides.
