On Friday, he went through the official registration procedure at Iran's Interior Ministry.

Many observers believe none of the current candidates in the conservative camp are a threat to Ahmadinejad's bid for a second term.

Earlier on Friday, Iran's former Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards, Mohsen Rezaei also formally registered his candidacy.

Iran's president is elected for a four-year term and may not serve for more than two consecutive terms.
