JERUSALEM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman will be appointed as the minister responsible for the Jewish state's strategic dialogue with the United States, local daily The Jerusalem Post reported Friday.
Israeli cabinet will be asked on Sunday to approve the appointment, it said, adding that Lieberman will be taking over this position from former Transportation Minister Shaul Mofaz, who was in charge of the dialogue under the Olmert government.
The appointment of Lieberman to this position was part of the ruling Likud party's coalition agreement with Lieberman's Israel Beiteinu (Israel is Our Home) party, added the report.
The U.S.-Israeli strategic dialogue, established in 1999, is a framework for multi-agency high-level discussions on strategic issues common to both countries that is held a number of times every year, and which of late has focused on the Iranian issue.
