MEXICO CITY, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Mexico will reinforce the monitoring of the A/H1N1 flu epidemic in order to detect another possible wave of the outbreak, while the country's activities are gradually returning to normal, the president said Thursday.

Felipe Calderon said that the joint work of doctors, nurses and workers of the health sector were fundamental factors to contain the spread of the virus, according to the most recent figures of the sanitary authorities of the country.

Calderon said that the active participation of the Mexicans was also important to apply the suggested preventive measures.

Calderon met on Thursday with Mexican former health ministers Jesus Kumate Rodriguez, Jose Antonio Gonzalez Fernandez, Juan Ramon de la Fuente and Guillermo Soberon in order to analyze the results of implementing the measures against the A/H1N1 flu.

Calderon said that he has ordered to reinforce the monitoring of the epidemic to detect another possible wave of the outbreak.

He said that the knowledge got by Mexico about this new virus, the responsibility of the citizens to face the epidemic, as well as the international cooperation, can ensure better means in tackling new outbreaks.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry suggested to keep excellent coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PHO) to strengthen the scientific work in the universities, health centers and specialized labs.

According to the WHO, the A/H1N1 flu in Mexico so far has killed 42 people and infected 1,070, while the Mexican authorities made the death toll to 44 with 1,116 infected.
