A Hamas legislator has accused Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of "killing the Palestinian dialogue". The comment came after a senior aide to Abbas said he plans to ask Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to form a new government without Hamas within the coming week.
Mushir Al-masri, a Hamas legislator, said, "The announcement of the formation of a government in the West Bank is the killing of the Palestinian dialogue efforts and confirms that Fatah does not have sincere intentions towards the Palestinian dialogue but is prematurely announcing its death. We certainly blame Mahmoud Abbas and his team for the failure of the Egyptian efforts."
Abbas aide: Power sharing talks gone nowhere
An aide to Abbas says months of power-sharing talks between Abbas' Fatah movement and Hamas have gone nowhere. The aide says the next round of Egyptian-brokered power-sharing talks between Hamas and Fatah will take place on May 16th as planned. Fatah insists that Hamas yield to international demands to recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept existing agreements between Israel and the Palestinians.
