Special Report: World tackles A/H1N1 fluMEXICO CITY, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Mexican authorities on late Wednesday lowered the alert level on A/H1N1 flu in the capital from orange to yellow, which indicates medium risk, local media reported.
The government took the measure as the current circumstances of the epidemic remain stable in the city, the worst-hit region in the deadly new virus outbreak, and the number of confirmed cases is falling.
It means that stadiums, bullrings, cinemas and nightclubs, whose activities had been suspended due to the outbreak, will return to normal operations from Wednesday.
The Mexican government announced a public health emergency on April 23, and subsequently ordered the closure of these institutions, as well as local gymnasiums, swimming pools and public parks. Restaurants were only allowed to serve takeaway food.
On Monday, local authorities decided to lower the alert level from the highest red to orange, in the middle of the scale, as well as lift restrictions on gatherings.
