Cafes opened for business for the first time in five days, and many corporate offices also reopened. Wearing masks and gloves, employees from government offices and private companies were also back at work.

High schools and universities in Mexico City will reopen on Thursday, and primary schools will do so next week.

Mexico's shutdown was aimed at containing the spread of the A/H1N1 flu which claimed fewer victims in the country as it mobilized an aggressive public health response.
