US envoy on DPRK to visit East Asia, Russia

The US State Department says its Special Representative to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Stephen Bosworth will begin a visit to China, South Korea, Japan and Russia this week.

The US envoy for NKorea is considering a Northeast Asian trip next week aimed at encouraging Pyongyang to resume nuclear disarmament talks, officials said, but it was unclear if the North would be on his itinerary. (AFP/Pool/File/Jo Yong-Hak)

The purpose of the trip is to work with countries concerned to push Pyongyang back to the six-party nuclear talks.

The DPRK withdrew from the talks and threatened a second nuclear test, as well as missile tests, in response to a security council statement on its recent satellite launch.
