UN Chief: WHO has no plan to raise alert level to 6

An update on the Influenza A/H-1-N-1 crisis. The World Health Organization said on Monday that they are now dealing with more than 1 thousand confirmed cases in 21 countries, although it warned that the numbers were constantly changing.

In New York, UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, said the W.H.O. had "no plan to raise the alert level to 6 at this moment". And he called on countries around the world to work together to combat the flu outbreak.

Though Mexican authorities believe the outbreak may have peaked, the W.H.O. maintains it is still too early to tell if the outbreak is slowing down.

Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General, said, "The current situation is yet another reminder that viruses do not respect national borders. Transmission in one country or region can threaten people all over the world. Our response must reflect enlightened self-interest and global solidarity at its best. This is a test for us all. We need to respond with a vigorous and new multilateralism. We need to help those countries, especially in the developing world, which may find it hard to respond to this threat."
