Special Report:   World tackles A/H1N1 flu

The Chinese government has redoubled efforts to prevent and control the A/H1N1 flu. A Mexican national, who flew from Mexico City via Shanghai to Hong Kong, has been the only person in the country confirmed to be infected with the virus. Measures include tracing the passengers, and stepping up communication with the World Health Organization.

China Southern Airlines has canceled a chartered flight scheduled to bring back 120 Chinese nationals stranded in Mexico. The flight operator says a flight has left for Los Angeles, but it will not fly to lift the Chinese nationals in Mexico as earlier planned. It adds that it's fully prepared for the charter mission, but further arrangements are up to the government.

Medical staff are checking the temperatures of this couple in Shanghai, and providing them with flu prevention medication.

Their son was on the same flight as the Mexican national who was diagnosed with influenza A/H1N1 in Hong Kong, and is now being quarantined at a hotel.

The couple is also under medical observation at their home, but they say they support and understand the situation.
