Mexico eases tensions on A/H1N1 flu epidemic

Mexico says outbreaks of the A/H1N1 flu epidemic in the country are now in decline, while the World Health Organization remains deeply concerned about the spread of the deadly flu virus.

Mexico's Health Secretary reported that new cases of the A/H1-N1 flu were tailing off there, while the U.S. and five other countries in Europe and Latin America reported new cases Sunday.

Jose Cordova, Mexico's Health Secretary, said, "The evolution of the epidemic is now in its declining phase. Nationally, it peaked over the past few days, from the 23rd to 28th of April."

He said data suggested that drastic measures, such as closing the nation's schools and businesses and banning mass public gatherings had apparently helped curb the spread of the flu.
