President Hu Jintao holds talks with Japanese PM Taro Aso

President Hu Jintao has held talks with visiting Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso in Beijing.

During their discussions, Hu Jintao said strategic mutually-benefit relations between the two countries have made great progress.

Hu Jintao said Japan is a very important economic and trade partner of China, and the two sides should enhance cooperation in fields like environmental protection, telecommunications and hi-tech industries.

President Hu said the two neighbors also should promote multilateral relations and contribute to Asia's peace and development.

Echoing Hu's remarks, Taro Aso said China and Japan should further enhance political and economic cooperation and jointly tackle the global downturn.
