They opened fire on a Muslim family of five. Four were killed, including a 16-year-old girl. A 13-year-old girl survived the attack. Two Muslim men were later found dead outside a nearby mosque.

In a separate incident, gunmen shot dead a Muslim defense volunteer while he was watching a football match in Yala province. Another 2 were killed in a drive-by shooting in Yala and Pattani. Thai security officials are blaming Islamic insurgents who they say want to stir up communal tension between Buddhists and Muslims.
