Iraq: US ambassador takes up his post

The new US ambassador to Iraq, Christopher Hill, has presented his credentials to Iraq's Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. Christopher Hill arrived in Baghdad on Friday, three days after being confirmed by the US Senate.

Senate Republicans had stalled the process for weeks. They objected to Hill's performance as chief negotiator with the DPRK during the Bush administration.
Hill takes over as ambassador at a time of rising insurgent violence in Iraq and the Pentagon's withdrawal timetable about to start. The US military plans to pull its forces from Iraqi cities by the end of June.
