S. Africa votes for new parliament

South Africans are voting to elect a new National Assembly and nine provincial legislatures. The National Assembly will then pick a new president.

About 23 million people are registered to vote, including more than 16 thousand overseas voters, in the most fluid and unpredictable elections since 1994. Nelson Mandela and the ANC's presidential hopeful, Jacob Zuma, cast their votes on Wednesday.

Zuma has stressed creating jobs and a stronger social safety net for the nation, and to improve livelihoods. Parliament elects South Africa's president, putting the African National Congress leader, Jacob Zuma, in line for the post when the new assembly votes in May. The ANC is expected to win by a large margin.
