France hands over suspected pirates to Kenya

A French navy ship carrying suspected pirates has docked in the Kenyan port Mombasa. The suspects are to be tried for their alleged attack on a Liberian cargo ship last week.

A French navy ship carrying suspected pirates has docked in  the Kenyan port Mombasa.

The ship captured the suspects in France's ninth anti-piracy military operation in the Gulf of Aden. French officials say following an agreement between Kenya and the EU, the 11 suspects are to be tried in a Kenyan court.

Other piracy suspects who allegedly attacked French citizens have been taken for trial to France. The French ship is serving in the international fleet trying to protect the gulf's trade route.
