Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accused Israel of being a cruel and racist regime. His words sparked a walkout by angry Western diplomats at a UN anti-racism conference in Geneva and protests from others.

In his speech on Monday, Ahmadinejad pointed the finger at the United States, Europe and Israel and said they were destabilizing the entire world.
About 40 European diplomats immediately walked out when he said Israel was created on the pretext of Jewish suffering from World War II. But the Iranian leader said those who walked out were in "minority" and their number were insignificant.
