The UN Security Council has adopted a statement on the recent rocket launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, saying it contravenes a 2006 Security Council resolution.

The 15-member council has condemned the April 5th launch by the DPRK and demands Pyongyang not conduct any further launches. The statement calls for the resumption of six-party talks on denuclearizing the DPRK, and orders financial sanctions and an arms and limited trade embargo laid down in the 2006 resolution to be activated.
The statement was agreed by the five permanent members of the Security Council -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the US -- and Japan after days of intense negotiations.
