President Obama says the US will strengthen cooperation with the international community to halt the rise of piracy in Somalia.

Meanwhile a pirate calling himself Hussein told Reuters by satellite phone that Somali pirates are vowing to avenge the shooting of their comrades. He also said they would avenge a French military assault attempt to rescue a yacht on Friday. Two pirates were shot dead, and three others were captured in the French rescue operation.
