Guarded by US Navy Seals, the ship reached port in Kenya on Saturday.
One crew member told journalists what happened after the ship was seized Wednesday
The crew later overpowered some of the pirates but the Somalis fled with the captain to an enclosed lifeboat.
John Reinhart, president of Maersk Shipping Line says the FBI has told them the ship is a crime scene and the crew will remain onboard during the investigation.
A US military official said on Saturday the pirates in the lifeboat fired a few shots at a small US Navy vessel that had approached, possibly to conduct reconnaissance.
