Thailand's former Deputy Agriculture Minister has called on the demonstrators to act in the interests of the nation, and not purely out of self-interest. Newin Chidchob made the comments during a press conference on Tuesday.

Newin Chidchob is a former right-hand man of ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

He called on the protesters to reconsider their actions and not to fall prey to any hidden ploy which might lead to violence and losses nationwide.

Newin also called on Thaksin to cease his criticism, especially of General Prem Tinsulanonda, whom the protestors accuse of masterminding the 2006 coup that ousted Thaksin Shinawatra.
