The Beijing-based China Tibetology Research Center has released a report outlining Tibet's economic and social development over the past 50 years. |
The goal of the report is to provide a comprehensive list of the achievements in contemporary Tibet and serve as a reference for policy makers.
The 6-part report begins with a summary of Tibet's current economic situation.
In 2008, Tibet's GDP exceeded 39 billion yuan, compared to 174 million 50 years ago. Its per capita GDP in 2008 was estimated at over 13,800 yuan. Although still lower than the national average, it's a giant leap from 142 yuan in 1959.
In 2008, the value of Tibet's primary industries exceeded 6 billion yuan, accounting for just over 15 percent of its GDP. The added value of the manufacturing industry reached nearly 11.6 billion yuan, accounting for about 29 percent of the GDP.
