BRIC states calls for reform of IMF

Finance ministers from Brazil, Russia, India, and China -- the so-called BRIC states -- are also pushing for an overhaul of the International Monetary Fund.
The changes would help ensure the organization will be able to adapt to new changes in the international monetary and financial systems.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the finance ministers called for a re-evaluation of the role of the IMF. They said the global financial crisis should result in an IMF with strengthened surveillance capabilities, particularly to watch developed economies with large inflows and outflows of capital.
